Speeding up your Upload

Photos taken with new digital cameras can be very large and take a long time to upload. Your upload speed is restricted by your own internet connection and your service provider's speed, not our service. You can reduce upload time by resizing your photos prior to uploading them.

Faster Uploads for Internet Explorer Users

If you are using Internet Explorer you can speed up your upload as follows:
  1. Start creating a new album using the ActiveX batch uploader.
  2. In the batch uploader check the options that says 'Resize photos before uploading'. If you do not see this checkbox then you must use the batch uploader (click the 'batch uploader link).

Faster Uploads for all other browsers

If you are using Firefox or another browser you can speed up your upload by manually resizing your photos before you upload.
  1. Download the Microsoft Image Resizer Powertoy
  2. Go to the directory contianing your photos.
  3. Right click on the photo you wish to rezise and select 'Resize Pictures'. Select the new image size and click 'OK'.
  4. Upload the smaller photo files.

On the Mac

If you are not using iPhoto, you can download our Picture Resizer tool. Unarchive the ZIP file, then:
  1. Run the 'Picture Resizer' application
  2. Choose the files or folder that contains your images
  3. Choose the destination folder for the resized images
  4. Choose a size for your resized images (or simply use the default 1600)
  5. Upload the smaller photo files from the folder you saved them to.
