WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
First a little history. You may wonder, what on earth does Bubble Wrap have to do with anything? Well, let's explore that. First, its invention was sort of an accidental stroke of genius, and if anyone knows about such things, it's bloggers, no?
You see, the story goes that two engineers, Marc Chavannes and Al Fielding, were making what they thought would be a great new kind of plastic wallpaper in 1957. When the product failed to take off, Marc and Al realized that the same material could replace the commonly-used abrasive paper packaging material as a way to pack heavy or delicate items. They brought Sealed Air Corporation to market in 1960 with just $9,000. Today, Sealed Air is a leading worldwide manufacturer of numerous protective and specialty packaging materials, with annual revenues exceeding 3 billion dollars.
It's like a high tech success story, except different!
In honor of the achievement, a Bloomington, IN-based radio station started Bubble Wrap® Appreciation Day on January 30, 2001, with events including the Bubble Wrap® popping relay, Pop-a-Mole (similar to a well-known carnival game wack-a-mole), and sculpture and fashion design contests.
HMMM, THAT'S INTERESTING. SHOULD I CARE?
We think so. In fact, we so think so that founding sponsors BubbleShare and Tucows have joined forces with friends at Red Flag Deals, LockerGnome, ElimiTaste! and the Naked Conversations team to launch the BubbleShare® Bubble Wrap® Photo++ Contest -- designed to unleash your creative spirit, your rolls of bubble wrap, AND your desire for neat prizes.
The contest is open to all bloggers. To enter, simply tell us ANY STORY YOU LIKE in celebration of Bubble Wrap in the form of a photo and audio essay using BubbleShare (www.bubbleshare.com) posted on your blog.
In 10 photos or less, show us how YOU celebrate Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. In return, you have a chance to win some cooool prizes, like an iPod Nano, t-shirts, DVDs, stuffed animals, chewing gum, books, and MORE!!!
CAN ANYONE PLAY?
Do you take digital photos and have a microphone to record your voice/audio into your computer? Do you blog?
WELL THEN SURE! Here's How:
- Just upload your Bubble Wrap Appreciation photos into an album at www.bubbleshare.com, add audio captions to each picture (that's where you explain why your pet hamster is wearing a Bubble Wrap skirt) using your own voice or the background audio of your choice
- Next, mark the photos as public, click the [Add Album to My Blog] button, and copy the code into a blog post.
- Then simply email the link to your post (and your album) to us at contest@bubbleshare.com.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO GET MY ENTRY IN?
You have to do all of this between now and February 20, 2006. And don't wait until the last minute now; you might get so enthralled in your Bubble Wrap creation that you forget to enter.
HOW DO I WIN?
Be creative. Be funny. Be bizarre. Be bubbly. Engage us with your tales of all things Bubble. A panel of blogger-friendly judges will review the albums and choose the top 10 entries. Then we'll open up those for voting by the masses from February 20 - 28, 2006. The top three most creative albums will win the following prizes:
1st place:
