A plan was drawn up to restore a portion of the riparian wetland that would have naturally been at Coon Creek. You can't tell from the photo but the kiosk is really high and the trees actually cover a fairly steep hill. Because it's such an AWESOME view, the overlook bench ended up being on the high ground closer to the kiosk. Watch for the shoreline scoops and isolated trees in the upcoming pictures...

The green line marks the boundary of the COE land surrounding Clinton Lake. The red line delineates the parcel being leased by the Kansas Dept of Wildlife and Parks for Clinton State Park - "home" of the Wakarusa (music) Fest. Coon Creek drains into the lake from the north. You can see it carries a lot of sediment into the lake....
